Ecological Restoration Theory & Principles
Ecosystem restoration is a fairly young industry and we are always learning more and improving. The National Standards for the practice of ecological restoration in Australia have been designed to encourage all restoration and rehabilitation projects in Australia to reach their highest potential. Learn about the National Standards and how you may consider their principles in your projects.
COURSE PUBLISHER
This workshop is for those already working or volunteering in the conservation industry.
You will require pre-existing knowledge of ecological restoration techniques and practice along with a good level of plant identification skills.
The workshop will cover:
Knowledge
- The value of National Standards for Ecological Restoration
- Understanding and implementing the 6 Principles
- How to determine a reference ecosystem and assess your site against it
- Ecological restoration theory underpinning the standards
- Understanding and assessing site resilience
- How the National Standards may change the way you map and assess sites
- How the Recovery Wheel can be used to monitor progress

- Produce a reference ecosystem checklist
- Optional add on – site visit of your choice to assess against reference ecosystem checklist

Trainer Profile
Kylie is the Founder and Director of SEEDS Bushland Restoration Pty Ltd, which she established in 2006 after a decade of experience working for local councils and bushland contractors. With a strong passion for environmental education, Kylie holds an Environmental Science Degree, a Graduate Diploma of Teaching, and a Certificate IV in Training & Assessment. Her extensive industry experience includes 12 years as a TAFE teacher in Conservation & Ecosystem Management.
Kylie is also a facilitator for the Victorian National Parks Association’s Nature Stewards program and actively supports her industry as the Accreditation Coordinator for Victoria’s Australian Association of Bushland Regenerators (AABR).
